Theoria (θεωρία) — “Contemplation,” “speculation,” “theory.” For Aristotle, the theoretical life (the philosopher or scientist contemplating the necessary) is the highest form of human life, since it imitates the activity of the Unmoved Mover (pure thought of thought). In the Platonic tradition, theoria is the direct contemplation of the Ideas. The word evolves into the modern sense of “theory” — a systematic and abstract explanation of a domain of phenomena.
