Severo Tácito

I’m Severo Tácito, founder and editor of Filosofia em Resumo. I write, review and sign the texts on this site — the syntheses, the thinker profiles, the glossary entries and the in-depth articles. Everything you read here passes through my reading and my editorial responsibility before it goes live.

I started this project from a simple conviction: it is possible to write about Plato, Kant or Heidegger with clarity, without betraying the authors’ thought and without falling into the superficiality of “internet summaries.” Philosophy is hard, but it is not inaccessible — and anyone who studies it seriously deserves texts that respect their intelligence and place each idea in its time, its tradition and its conversation with other ideas.

Background

I am devoted to the continued study of the history of philosophy and to producing rigorous introductory material in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Filosofia em Resumo is where I bring that work together in an organized, public form.

How I work

Every text on this site comes out of an editorial process that combines reading of the primary sources where available, support from the major histories of philosophy (Reale & Antiseri, Copleston, Russell, Châtelet, Hirschberger, among others) and cross-checking against academic references such as the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy and the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

When interpreters disagree, I present the disagreement as a disagreement — not as a single truth. And errors are corrected publicly: if you find an inaccuracy, write to me. Every factual correction is welcome.

The full criteria are described on the About page, with the editorial methodology in detail.
